Today, 12 years after unsuccessful attempts to agree on its text, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the proposal of the Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Edin Forto, agreed on the Draft Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Driving Licences between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Italy.

“The Agreement, the signing of which was initiated by the Ministry will allow our citizens living in Italy to exchange valid BiH driving licence for the equivalent Italian documents, without prior requirement to take theoretical and practical driving tests, and vice versa. This is of great importance for the BiH citizens living and working in Italy, especially those whose daily working activities involve motor vehicle driving”, said Minister Forto.

According to the Agreement, the Contracting Parties mutually recognise valid driving licences for the benefit of their owners who have been granted permanent residence in the territory of the other country. Driving licence issued by competent authorities of one Contracting Party shall cease to be valid in the territory of another Party one year after its holder has acquired the right of permanent residence in the territory of another Contracting Party.

The Draft Agreement will be submitted to the Presidency of BiH to designate its signatory, followed by its signing, which will depend on the readiness of the Italian side. The Agreement will enter into force following its ratification by both countries.
