Delegation of the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by Minister Edin Forto, met today in Sarajevo with the delegation of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, led by Minister Goran Vesić.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ognjen Janjić, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Aleksandar Đorđević.

Strengthening of rail and road connectivity, acceleration of Sarajevo – Belgrade highway construction project, and facilitations for professional drivers were the main topics of the meeting.

Minister Forto once again noted about the importance of the European Union’s support for the initiative to exempt professional drivers, just as pilots and maritime crews are exempt, from the EU Regulation according to which third countries’ nationals may stay in the EU up to 90 days within 180-day period.

Minister Forto stressed the need to focus on regional connectivity: “Transport infrastructure is our goal and our means of rapprochement to the EU, since the Transport Community in the EU’s project in which we equally take part. Together with the Government of Serbia, we shall apply for EU grants and financing of at least two projects, namely the railway from Banja Luka via Doboj, Tuzla, Zvornik and further to Serbia, and the reconstruction of bridges between BiH and Serbia. The goal is to illustrate that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia are heading towards the EU together”, said Minister Forto.

Minister Vesić noted that the Serbian Delegation arrived to BiH to discuss the specific projects between the two countries, given that the governments of both countries are aiming at regional transport connectivity.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of our most important neighbours and our priority in term of connectivity. It is time for Belgrade and Sarajevo to be connected by a highway”, said Minister Vesić.

The Ministers announced a conference that will take place in Brčko on 5 July in which discussions about Orašje – Brčko – Tuzla highway, upgrading of the Port of Brčko, and the rail corridors along the motorway will be in focus.
