BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, and the Deputy Minister, Nedžad Branković, held a meeting today with the Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community with the headquarters in Belgrade, Matej Zakošnjek in which the work plans of the Secretariat were presented with an overview of the past actions within the framework of the Transport Community.

As Minister Mitrović noted, the Transport Community is a highly important regional partner for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the signed Transport Community Treaty is a proof of that.

“The development and connectivity of the countries in the region and the Western Balkans countries means better life for the citizens and a better position of our country on its path towards the EU integration. Also, the road construction and safety as well as investment in railway transport, removal of non-physical barriers for more efficient and faster border crossing are the priorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Transport Community. This will all contribute to a better connectivity in the region, which is of great importance if we want to develop and move forward with our economies” said Minister Mitrović.

It was agreed that investing in railway transport will directly affect the economic development of the countries in the region.

“We in the Transport Community are looking forward to the continuation of good cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will continue to support the implementation of infrastructure projects in order to better connect the countries of the region with the European Union. The political will in the EU exists, therefore, we expect concrete results from the Ministerial meeting to be held on 26 October and the EU – Western Balkans Summit in November. Today’s meeting is an opportunity to discuss our joint priorities, namely the modernisation of roads in BiH, enhancing road safety, and establishing and developing of railway transport in order to improve trade in the region, which will directly affect the economic development. Investments in Corridor Vc and the Svilaj and the Gradiška bridges are of particular significance” said Director Zakošnjek.

This is the first official visit of Director Zakošnjek to the BiH Ministry of Transport and Communications and Bosnia and Herzegovina since his appointment on 1 August 2020.
