BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, met today with the Entity Prime Ministers Fadil Novalić and Radovan Višković, Directors of Entity companies in charge of motorways Elmedin Voloder and Dušan Topić and the Mayor of the Brčko District of BiH Esad Karić and the Principal Deputy High Representative and Supervisor of the Brčko District Michael Scanlan.

The discussion focused on the Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway construction project implementation, that is the ways to resolve the issue concerning the selection of a part of the motorway's route passing through the Brčko District.

Minister Mitrović said that the Institute for Planning, Designing and Development came up with several variants of the route and suggested the best solution which was met with disapproval by the authorities of the Brčko District of BiH. Therefore, the Supervisor Scanlan and the authorities of the Brčko District of BiH requested for this meeting to be held with the representatives of the companies Autoputevi RS and Autoceste FBiH in order to review all suggested solutions.

Minister Mitrović touched on what has been done so far noting that the Ministry has completed its part of the work but there are issues at the lower levels of government. “The selection of the motorway route through Brčko belongs to the Brčko District and the Brčko District will make a final decision to that effect, explains Mitrović adding that both Entities are interested in financing this part of the motorway given that the final goal is to connect Vukosavlje and Brčko with Bijeljina and Rača but also with Tuzla, Zavidovići and Sarajevo.

A meeting between the representatives of the Entity companies in charge of motorways with the Mayor of the Brčko District of BiH is planned to be held early next year in order to select the final route on the mentioned section of the motorway.
