Minister Mitrović emphasised that the BiH Parliamentary Assembly is the founder of BHRT, and not the Ministry; therefore it should be responsible for resolving this matter.
Minister Mitrović also noted on the necessity for BHRT, together with its Steering Board and the founder, to find a source of funding in order to create preconditions for the future sustainable existence of this public broadcaster, that the Ministry would forward to the BiH Council of Ministers and then to the BiH Parliamentary Assembly.
As a possible solution to the problem, the representatives of the EU Delegation proposed using reserves of some institutions or covering part of the debt from the reserves of the BiH Communications Regulatory Agency.
Minister Mitrović called for caution since, in addition to an extremely difficult situation of BHRT, the other two public broadcasters – the Federal Television and the Radio Television of Republika Srpska – are also facing problems, and this also needs to be jointly addressed.
Namely, BHRT's debt to the EBU dates back to 2007. In a letter dated 18 June 2014, the EBU proposed a debt settlement plan which was accepted, but BHRT complied with it for two months only, causing the accumulation of the interest rates as well.
