BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, held a telephone meeting with the EU Ambassador to BiH, Johann Sattler.

They discussed the activities that the Ministry has undertaken in line with the Conclusion of the European Commission of 23 March 2020 to establish the green corridors aimed at linking the Western Balkan countries with the Republic of Croatia and the EU Member States.

Minister Mitrović informed Ambassador Sattler that the Ministry designated the green corridors for the international transport of goods on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina (border crossings Bijača, Gradiška and Šamac), taking into account the decision of the Croatian Crisis Management Committee on the border crossings designated for international transport of goods towards the EU and the Western Balkan countries. Bosnia and Herzegovina is the first Western Balkan country to define the green corridors designated in line with the joint proposal prepared by the Joint Secretariat of the Transport Community and the CEFTA Secretariat. The purpose of this document is to facilitate the trade and transport of goods addressing only those additional precautionary measures that have been or are to be taken in order to prevent the pandemic outbreak. Customs and other controls of good within the framework of legislative trade remain in effect in accordance with the CEFTA rules and the rules under the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the EU and the regional partners.

Ambassador Sattler welcomed the efforts of the Ministry, headed by Minister Mitrović, in addressing the problems faced by the BiH carriers and the congestions at border crossings resulting from long queues which may potentially have adverse effects on the supply of basic necessities. He also informed of the EU’s intention to continue to assist BiH in fighting coronavirus by providing technical support in the implementation of the assistance packages aimed at providing medical equipment and mitigating the effects on economy.

In the end they concluded that the international transport of goods at the border crossings of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the neighbouring countries has drastically improved in the recent days.
