Upon the invitation of the Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia, Oleg Butković, the BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, paid a working visit to the Republic of Croatia.

On this occasion, Ministers Mitrović and Butković signed the Agreement on the Maintenance and Reconstruction of Road Bridges along the State Border between the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Republic of Croatia.

“We are aware that without the development of infrastructure there is no development of the region, and for Bosnia and Herzegovina and all the people living in this area, any kind of connectivity with the countries of the region is positive. The Agreement we have signed today allows us to begin with the maintenance of interstate bridges, for which 200,000KM are planned annually for the ongoing maintenance of the bridges with Croatia, while funds for the emergency maintenance and reconstruction are provided through the BiH Budget and the international obligations of BiH, as special purposes programme of the BiH Ministry of Communications and Transport in the total amount of approx. 2 million KM in the next five years” said Minister Mitrović.

“By building the bridges with the neighbouring countries, the motorway network of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be connected to the European transport network, enabling our citizens to make shorter, faster, easier and more comfortable travels to Europe.

As noted by Minister Butković, today’s signing of the Agreement marks yet another step towards stronger transport and economic connectivity between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Maintenance and reconstruction of bridges and roads on the common border is equally important for both countries, because only through cooperation may we improve our ties, both the transport and economic ones. Some bridges, that are the subject of the Agreement signed today, are in a very poor condition and we must react quickly in order to bring them to a safe condition as soon as possible from the traffic point of view. In addition to connecting the two countries, the bridges ultimately connect the citizens, and that is the goal of any such intestate cooperation” said Minister Butković.

The delegations of the two Ministries held a bilateral meeting to discuss the improvement of bilateral relations and the regional cooperation, with special reference to the construction of the Gradiška and Brčko-Gunja bridges, putting the Svilaj bridge into operation and defining the Adriatic-Ionian motorway route.

Minister Mitrović also met with the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Republic of Croatia, H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Vranješ.
