Following the meeting in Brcko, the delegations of the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia led by Minister Vojin Mitrović and Minister Oleg Butković respectively, visited the Svilaj border crossing with the Head of the Border Management Department of the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH, Dubravko Rodić, and then the Gradiška border crossing and the bridge with the director of the Highways of Republika Srpska, Dušan Topić.

“Precondition for putting the Svilaj border crossing into operation is its categorisation that has not been done yet. Namely, the competent institutions must initiate the process of categorization of this border crossing, given that Croatia has already completed the border crossing on its side and the highway on that road section” said Minister Mitrović.

As Minister Butković noted, the construction of the Svilaj bridge is one of the most important projects that the Republic of Croatia is implementing in cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Now it is up to the BiH side to ensure all the necessary preconditions for putting the bridge into operation as soon as possible. This will result in reduction of traffic congestion in the vicinity of Slavonski Brod and enable the functionality of the Corridor Vc where the bridge is located” said Minister Butković, adding that, in addition to connecting the two countries, the new bridge will ultimately connect residents on both sides of the Sava River.

Completion of works on the Svilaj border crossing is planned for July 15, followed by technical approval and obtaining of operational permit, while putting into operation for a trial period and full functioning of this border crossing is expected by mid-August.

“The Gradiška bridge is planned to be completed in the spring of next year, and it would connect the BiH highway with a planned expressway on the Croatian side that would stretch from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, via Virovitica and Okučani, to the border with Hungary. It is expected that the construction of this section will result in significant reduction of traffic congestion at the existing border crossing in Gradiška, faster border crossing and safer travel” said Minister Mitrović.

Director Topić said that the work progress on the Sava bridge construction site near Gradiška is visible on a daily basis.

“The bridge is already connected to the existing highway E 661 Gradiška - Banja Luka, the steel structure is mounted to the middle of the river, and according to plans, the connection with the other side of the river bank is expected to be completed during the summer months. Road construction on the Croatian side is expected to begin soon, which will connect the new bridge with the Belgrade - Zagreb highway and thus enable connecting the highway network in Republika Srpska with the European state-of-the-art road networks” said director Topić.
