However, due to the occurrence of the coronavirus pandemic, the part relating to the proof load testing and the technical acceptance of the bridge has been postponed for mid-May, followed by obtaining of the operating permit.
According to plan, next week Autoceste FBiH will install asphalt on the 300-meter section, from the bridge to the border crossing, and then the bridge can be put into operation.
At the first session of the new convocation of the BiH Council of Ministers, additional funds were approved for the completion of the financial structure, followed by the selection of the company Liskaši Niskogradnja as the contractor and a deadline of 300 days was set for the completion of this modern and up-to-date border bridge. The contractor is scheduled to be admitted to the construction site next week.
As noted by Minister Mitrović, in cooperation with the BiH Border Police, the BiH Indirect Taxation Authority, and Autoceste FBiH, the Ministry will try to find a solution to temporarily put the Svilaj bridge and the border crossing into operation for transport of passengers, to avoid additional costs, for which the presence of Border Police, Customs and the Indirect Taxation Authority is also required. In case this will not be possible, it will be necessary to ensure that the bridge is guarded until the border crossing and the terminal are constructed.
This joint bridge construction was implemented on the basis of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the construction of an interstate bridge over the Sava River near Svilaj and the connecting border sections of the Motorway on the Corridor Vc. Under the Agreement, each country finances 50 percent of the contracted value of the works.
This is a huge infrastructure project on the Corridor Vc that will connect the motorway on the BiH and the Croatian side over the Sava River, the total value of which amounts to EUR 23,359,528.19 (VAT excluded). The European Union provided the grant in the amount of EUR 24.4 mil., as part of the 2015 Connectivity Agenda for the purpose of the implementation of the Svilaj bridge project, the construction of a modern and efficient border crossing and a modern 10.7 km long motorway between Svilaj and Odžak, for which Minister Mitrović thanked the EU Ambassador to BiH, Johann Sattler.
