“The suspension of traffic and the use of bridge by light vehicles and pedestrians alone caused devastating economic consequences, particularly to the businesses in the Brčko District of BiH. With the reconstruction of the bridge, originally built 130 years ago, freight traffic at the border crossing between Brčko and Gunja would be re-established. The bridge is extremely important both for the Brčko District and its economy as well as for the Public Company “Luka Brčko” (Port of Brčko)” said Minister Mitrović.   

Mayor Milić expressed his satisfaction with the support provided by the Ministry in the implementation of the two very significant projects for the Brčko District of BiH – revitalisation of the Public Company “Luka Brčko” and the reconstruction of the bridge over the Sava River which serves as the border crossing between Brčko and Gunja, namely BiH and Croatia. “These projects are crucial for the economic development in the Brčko District and the planned construction of the motorway from Banja Luka and Sarajevo will further strengthen the position of the District as the area suitable for economic activities” said Mayor Milić.

Following the meeting in the City Hall, Minister Mitrović and Mayor Milić visited the Brčko-Gunja Bridge, and after that they visited the Public Company “Luka Brčko” with the Director Marinko Viljušič.

Director Viljušić thanked Minister Mitrović for the visit, emphasising the special significance of the P.C. “Luka Brčko“ for Bosnia and Herzegovina as the only port.
