As Minister Mitrović noted, this is the opportunity to prove once again our proactive approach in reaching our common goal - zero deaths on the roads in Bosnia and.
“Today we are discussing a very important segment - how the local communities, by own activities, can contribute to the security system. Proper planning of calm traffic zones benefits all traffic participants if mobility is not impaired. Also, one of the priorities when it comes to roads is the revision of all road network projects on the basis of which the existing traffic signals have been installed" said Minister Mitrović.
In his welcoming address, Minister Mitrović emphasised that the Ministry he leads has been working on the coordination of traffic safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina, adding two very important activities that are currently being implemented: one is within the Transport Community and concerns the development of a Regional Strategy for Sustainable and Smart Mobility, and the second activity is conducted in cooperation with our partners from the United Nations, and that is the development of the Framework Strategy for Road Safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina with an action plan for the period 2021-2025.
Although we have been recording good results, we are still not fully satisfied with the overall traffic safety. In the past five years, we have had a positive trend of decreasing deaths in traffic accidents, and within the ten-year period, the decrease is somewhere around 36%. The ultimate goal is traffic without casualties, which is significantly contributed by the activities of the competent authorities, such as this one in Bijeljina. "Streets for Life" initiative requires our full attention for the benefit of all citizens participating in traffic on a daily basis" concludes Minister Mitrović.
In addition to Minister Mitrović, the Round Table was attended by the RS Minister of Transport and Communications, Nedeljko Ćorić, Director of RS Traffic Safety Agency, Novica Krunić, Mayor of Bijeljina, Ljubiša Petrović, Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community, Matej Zakonjšek, and other relevant interlocutors on traffic safety.
