BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, received a curtesy call from the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Hezegovina, Makota Ito.

The two discussed the Corridor Vc, transport of goods and services to and from BiH as well as air transport of passengers and goods.

Minister Mitrović reminded that Bosnia and Herzegovina expressed its support to the Japan’s candidate Mashiaku Metoki for the position of Director General of the Universal Postal Union’s International Office, while Japan expressed its support to the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s candidacy for the UPU’s Administrative Council as soon as the conditions have been met for holding the UPU’s Congress.

In terms of mutual recognition of driving licences between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Japan, there are certain differences that could be resolved by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. This would help resolving similar issues not only with Japan, but also with other countries signatories of the Geneva Convention. Namely, Bosnia and Herzegovina acceded the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, thus recognising driving licence to foreigners with temporary residence in Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with the provisions of this Convention.

It was concluded that the negotiations should be continued since there are no major outstanding issues preventing signing the Agreement, given the examples of other countries that have mutually recognised driving licences without acceding to the Geneva Convention.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Mitrović welcomed the Japanese Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and wished him success in his future engagement.
