Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojin Mitrović, and the Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community in Belgrade, Matej Zakonjšek, visited today the bridge over the Sava River in Svilaj.

After visiting the bridge, Minister Mitrović and Director Zakošnjek held a meeting in which the activities of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community on the Core Network were presented, such as the plans for introduction of e-tolling, electronic charger stations along the Corridor Vc, railways, transport facilitation and reaching an agreement on the joint border control between BiH and Croatia and between BiH and Serbia, respectfully, and consideration of a potential option for the Karakaj, Varadište and Rača border crossings to be a one-stop-shop solutions between BiH and Serbia.

EU representatives also took part in the visit.

In his address to the media representatives, Minister Mitrović noted that the Corridor Vc represents the most ambitious investment plan in BiH, requiring significant financial and human resources, reminding that it passes partly through the Republika Srpska and partly through the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As pointed out by the Director Zakonjšek, the Transport Community is proud to support infrastructure projects financed by the EU.

“Today’s visit to Svilaj was the opportunity to revise the on-going activities on the Corridor Vc - one of the most significant transport links in the Western Balkans, but also to see how we can move forward and ensure that the bridge and the motorway become operational. Once completed, travel time and vehicle operating costs will be reduced and the economic competitiveness of the entire region will improve. Modernisation and good road maintenance are one of our priorities. For Corridor Vc, this means the future development of ITS, regular maintenance and e-tolling and charging stations” said Zakonjšek.

Following the meeting with Director Zakonjšek, Minister Mitrović and the BiH Minister for Human Rights and Refugees, Miloš Lučić, met with the Mayor of the Municipality Odžak, Mayor Ćulap and Mr Ivetić took the opportunity to discuss with the Ministers about the returnees and the concrete assistance to this population, as well as the stronger engagement of Odžak Municipality led by the newly elected mayor on the Svilaj border terminal, customs zone and the border crossing.

Minister Mitrović stressed that the benefits of opening the Svilaj border crossing are manifold both for the residents living in the area and the overall economy, while Minister Lučić emphasised that the CEB2 and RSP projects aimed at closing collective centres and the alternative accommodations, while taking care of the refugees and the displaced persons, have been successfully completed in this Municipality.

Concrete assistance to this Municipality from the level of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina was agreed.
