The first session of the Conference was dedicated to the Progress Report of the Transport Community Action Plans followed by interventions of the European Commission representatives and the Transport Ministers from the South East European countries.
During his intervention, Minister Mitrović noted that, after the construction and putting into operation of the interstate bridge over the Sava river near Svilaj for passenger traffic, the priority for Bosnia and Herzegovina is the construction of the interstate bridge on the Sava river near Gradiška.
“Our initiative is to modify the constructed border-crossing on the BiH side to be an integrated one, enabling police, customs and other controls at a single spot. The Svilaj border-crossing will be in its full capacity of operation after formal agreement between the border-control and customs competent bodies, which we hope will be reached soon" said Minister Mitrović.
Minister also noted that the biggest challenge for Bosnia and Herzegovina is the implementation of activities envisaged by the Railway Action Plan.
“I personally believe that the activities concerning opening of the railway market can be implemented in a manner that the railway companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with appropriate restructuring, meet the conditions set by the Treaty Establishing the Transport Community. None of this is easy and requires a lot of energy. However, we are making progress, step by step. According to the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the competencies are at the Entity level and we strive to agree their actions.”
During his visit to Montenegro, Minister Mitrović held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Capital Investments of Montenegro, Mladen Bojanić, with whom he discussed manners to provide funds for the construction of the Foča-Šćepan Polje bridge and the establishment of the Adriatic-Ionian Railway section Čapljina - Nikšić - Podgorica - Tirana - Durres.
Minister Mitrović also held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Momirović, to discuss the opening of the integrated border-crossing Bratunac, for which human resources and the equipment for customs and control bodies have been provided and are currently being tested.
