Namely, the Communication of the European Commission of 23 March 2020 on implementing green corridors, that Bosnia and Herzegovina has already submitted to the Headquarters of the Transport Community and the European Commission, as well as the instruction on smooth movement of goods aim to facilitate and speed up the international transport of goods at border crossings and through the territory of the EU Member States and the countries of the Western Balkans. This will help all goods reaching the final destination in an easier and faster way.
As Minister Mitrović noted in his letter, removing police escorting and convoys would help all drivers, health care workers and those engaged at border crossings as well as to all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia in supply with the necessary goods and significantly contribute to fighting against the coronavirus. Gathering of vehicles engaged in international transport during the state of emergency causes congestions at border crossings, thereby increasing the possibility to spread the disease amongst drivers, police and customs officers, and other workers at border crossings.
At the time of the global crisis caused by the coronavirus epidemics, all Western Balkan countries and the EU Member States are required to protect health and lives of the citizens and to enable smooth flow of goods in international transport. This primarily relates to medicines, hygiene and sanitary material, medical equipment, food products and other goods necessary for normal functioning of businesses.
