BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, together with RS Minister of Transport and Communications, Đorđe Popović, Director of RS Roads, Dušan Topić, and the representatives of the contractor Integral inženjering a.d. Laktaši and the supervisor Institut IGH d. d. Zagreb visited the construction site of the bridge over the Sava River near Gradiška.

The construction of the bridge near Gradiška is a joint project between two countries and it is implemented under the Agreement between the BiH Council of Ministers and the Government of the Republic of Croatia.

“This is an example of good cooperation and joint construction of one of the important infrastructure projects of Republika Srpska, namely Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia. The works are expected to be intensified and the opening of the bridge that is of utmost significance for both countries, especially for Bosnia and Herzegovina as it will enable connecting to the network of European road corridors, is expected to take place in the spring of 2022” said Minister Mitrović.

“In the near future, the bridge over the Sava River will connect the existing Gradiška - Banja Luka motorway with the network of European motorways, which is of tremendous importance for the citizens and economy of Republika Srska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also for the region. The construction of two bridges over the Sava River, the one in Gradiška and the one in Rača, are one of the most important regional projects implemented in BiH” said Minister Popović.

The Gradiška bridge will connect the BiH motorway with the planned expressway on the Croatian side that would stretch from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina via Virovitica and Okučani to the border with Hungary.

„The bridge over the Sava River near Gradiška is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Republika Srpska and it is a true pleasure to take part in and witness the implementation of such a large-scale and important work, notably due to delays in starting the construction. With the construction of this bridge, the network of motorways in Republika Srpska will be connected to the European transport network and thus gain its full meaning and significance” said Director Topić.

The bridge is 426 metres long and 22.6 metres wide and it will have four lanes, two in each direction. The contracted value of the works is EUR 19,540,997, while the grant was approved by the European Commission, through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), in the total amount of EUR 6.8 million.
