BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, met today in Sarajevo with the Italian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Mr. Nicola Minaisi.

At the meeting which was initiated by Ambassador Minaisi, discussions were held on the measures taken by the two countries in order to mitigate serious consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on economic cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy, particularly in the transport sector.

Expressing the solidarity and full support to the friendly Italian people and the Government of that country in the fight against coronavirus pandemic, Minister Mitrović informed Ambassador Minaisi that the BiH Council of Ministers, upon the initiative of Minister Mitrović, amended the decision banning the entry of foreign nationals into BiH, removing from that decision the crews of trucks and aircrafts carrying goods and supplies necessary for the operation of businesses.

„The economy must be operational, assistance must arrive, transport must not cease“ said Minister Mitrović.

In this regard, Minister Mitrović said that the BiH Ministry of Communications and Transport has forwarded the proposal for the transport corridors to be used in transit, with specific locations and retention time and driver health controls.

Minister Mitrović informed Ambassador Minaisi of the problems and bans faced by drivers when entering and passing through Croatia and Slovenia. Ambassador Minaisi promised that the Government of Italy will support and try to assist in finding the solutions for transport-related issues in the countries of the region that are EU Member States.

Ambassador Minaisi said that the Government of Italy stands ready to share with the BiH authorities its experiences in fighting the coronavirus pandemic and organising quarantine at border-crossings.

They also discussed other forms of cooperation between BiH and Italy in the transport and communications sectors after the end of coronavirus pandemic. Considering the high level of foreign trade exchange between the two countries, it was agreed that Italy would consider the possibility of increasing the contingent of international bilateral permits for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
