Reconstruction of Brčko – Gunja Bridge Soon to Begin

BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Edin Forto, and the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia, Oleg Butković, signed today the Agreement between the BiH Council of Ministers and the Government of the Republic of Croatia on the Reconstruction of the Brčko – Gunja Bridge.

The Ministers agreed to immediately initiate the procedure for the design and obtaining the necessary approvals in order to enable beginning of works before end of 2024 and simultaneously to continue with the activities aimed at constructing a new bridge.

“Novi Grad – Dvor is the next bridge that will be reconstructed and the discussion was ongoing on improving the Orašje – Županja road. They also discussed the expressway that will better connect the Una-Sana Canton with the Republic of Croatia. There is a proposal to connect the existing connection Tirana - Podgorica - Sarajevo via Krajina with Croatia and Slovenia. With our joint forces, we will attempt to include this corridor into the network of European corridors, and after that we will try to obtain funds from the European Union” said Minister Forto.

Minister Butković noted that the Hrvatske ceste will urgently begin with the implementation of the Brčko – Gunja Bridge reconstruction project.

The delegations of the two Ministries also discussed the matters related to railway infrastructure with emphasis on the reconstruction of the Una Railway.

“We will begin with the development of reconstruction project of this railway that was once most modern in the region, and then BiH and the RoC will jointly seek the funds for its reconstruction” said Minister Forto.

The Ministers agreed on the next steps to be taken with a view of establishing a passenger rail services between Sarajevo and Zagreb.
