European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, signed the Agreement on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation in the EU Digital Europe Programme. In the coming days, the Agreement will be forwarded for signing to the BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Edin Forto, and, following its ratification, it will enter into force retroactively as of 1 January this year.

This implies that applicants from our country are eligible to submit applications in the Programme’s open calls, the budget of which amounts to EUR 7.5 billion for the period 2021-2027, intended to support infrastructure and capacity development in supercomputers, Artificial Intelligence, cyber security and digital skills.

“This will bring Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the European Union’s economy and the society, it will be beneficial for its technological capacities and will support digitalisation in general”, says the European Commission statement, noting that the Programme will particularly be useful to small and middle-sized enterprises.

Minister Forto expressed his satisfaction with the fact that by joining the Digital Europe, our country will finally be able to rely on significant funds in the field of digitalisation, which is an opportunity to make a leap forward in digital transformation of BiH, the key of which lies in the cooperation between public and private sectors.

Up until now, Bosnia and Herzegovina was the only country in the Western Balkans that did not participate in this largest European digitalisation programme.
