“Connecting Bosnia and Herzegovina with the region, but also connecting us all with Europe must be the priority. The free flow of our people, goods and ideas will stop emigration and restore hope in better future”, said Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, following today’s meeting in Belgrade with the Minister of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, Goran Vasić, adding that the two countries will jointly discuss project financing with EU partners.

The Ministers agreed that one of the important projects between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia is the construction of the Sarajevo – Belgrade railway, jointly initiated by the two countries’ Ministers. The railway will enable further strengthening of economic activities between Serbia and BiH.

As for the construction of the Sarajevo – Belgrade highway, Minister Vesić noted that part of the Sremska Rača-Kuzmin highway is to be completed by end of the year.

They clarified that the bridges over the Drina River between Serbia and BiH are currently under reconstruction.

Minister Forto emphasised that the development of transport permit digitalisation was initiated after the first meeting with Vesić.

“Business community engaged in transportation in the region will be able to digitalise whatever necessary in order to enable smooth border-crossing“ said Forto.

Finally, Minister Forto invited Minister Vesić to Sarajevo 6-7 June when he will discuss other projects with partners from the region and the EU, especially those in the railway sector, when signing of an agreement on joint investment in the railway corridor is expected.
