“It is time to change the way we think – the days when Bosnia and Herzegovina needed donations and assistance, such as those from IDA funds, are over. Today, we are the country that is capable of supporting the development of countries that need IDA funds, just like we needed it in the post-war period” said Minister Forto.
The meeting was held in Marrakech within the framework of the World Bank-International Monetary Fund Annual Meeting in which Minister Forto takes part in the capacity of Deputy Governor of BiH in the World Bank.
At the meeting, rebuilding of the Old Bridge in Mostar was highlighted as one of the most significant joint projects in BiH and marking of 20 years of its restauration in July next year was announced, the same period as the successful cooperation between BiH and the World Bank has lasted.
Mr. Nishio noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a unique example that other countries should follow, as it has gone from being a Fund beneficiary until recent times, to becoming a donor, thus demonstrating its maturity and readiness to support the development of other countries through IDA Fund, which is yet another indicator of economic progress that is also important for the EU integration process.
