Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently the last of the six Western Balkan economies in terms of its pace of alignment of its transport policy with the EU acquis.

“This is a huge work that lies ahead of us in the EU membership negotiations process. There is no explanation why we, as the state, have achieved a very low level of compliance with EU legislation in the transport area, althought we committed to fulfilling these conditions by ratifying the Agreement on the Establishment of the Transport Community in 2018”, said Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, adding that all energy must be focused on the internal coordination in Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to deliver the solutions that will be applicable at all levels of government and accelerate Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards the European Union.

Investments in transport infrastructure are crucial for strengthening regional cooperation, but also the European integration of the Western Balkans, and serve and the economic drivers and raise the living standard of the citizens  - this was the message from today’s meeting of the Transport Community Ministerial Council in Skopje, which was attended by Minister Forto and the leaderships of the Transport Ministries from Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Greece, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, held under the auspice of the Transport Community Permanent Secretary.

Within the Regional Conference on Smart Systems, the Ministers pledged to introduce new technologies aimed at primarily improving the safety of transport and its acceleration.

The Transport Community Ministerial Council discussed the progress of the countries in the implementation of infrastructure projects on the main TEN-T corridors (European corridors), as well as the progress in alignment of transport policy with the EU acquis.
