Connecting all schools to high-speed Internet is a prerequisite for digital transformation in education of BiH and, therefore, the GIGA Project, led by UNICEF and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), is of key interest, not only in terms of connecting, but also ensuring good-quality and safe Internet in all schools.

This is the message of the Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Edin Forto, who has held several meetings, together with the colleagues from the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Hercegovina, with the representative of UNICER, ITU and other international organisations and private sector to discuss the possibilities of networking 500 primary and secondary schools in BiH, thus providing Internet access for over 14,000 students.

“Inter-sectoral partnerships and coordinated efforts are crucial for connecting schools to Internet. The authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina have already succeeded in mapping and positioning primary and secondary, both central and regional, schools in BiH on the global GIGA map and prioritised the progress in the area of accessing to information, opportunities and education for each child in Bosnia and Herzegovina. UNICEF in BiH is looking forward to witnessing and supporting such alliances and partnerships in the next stages of digital transformation in education”, said Veronika Vashchenko, Representative ad interim in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

There was a joint conclusion that such examples and projects practically provide support to the digital transformation process in education, which is in line with the Bosnia and Herzegovina’s priorities on its path to the EU integration.

Minister Forto announced that, with the aim fast and good-quality implementation of the GIGA project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, telecom operators and private sector representatives will be actively involved in such projects, thus demonstrating a socially responsible approach.
