“We are the first in the region to digitalise business processes and establish digital registers of road carriers, vehicles and drivers, and created preconditions for the digitalisation of transport permit via a modern portal, all with the aim of increasing the transparency of business operations. Also, together with Serbia, we have initiated the digitisation of the entire process of issuing transport permits, that has already been accepted and initiated within the framework of the activities carried out by the Transport Community at the regional level”, said Edin Forto, Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the opening of the Conference AI Crossroads: Shaping the Future of Traffic and Communications.

Speaking about the transport sector digital transformation, the Minister noted that the goal is to support a system development for easier and faster border crossing. Digital transformation in this area is very much required and urgent, especially from the aspect of reducing drivers’ waiting time at border crossings, especially with the EU.

“We are conducting these activities in parallel with our efforts to liberalise the transport market, because we believe that this would contribute to our transport sector and facilitate business processes. Our common ultimate goal that the competent authorities of the countries carry out throughout the procedure and issue the necessary permits in a digital format via the information system and with only a few clicks, instead of month-long procedures that we use today. Moreover, there are enthusiasts here at the Conference who want to open an AI institute in Sarajevo. We need to focus on what is best globally and what is in the forefront compared to others, and such projects will definitely have my support”, said Minister Forto.

The Conference was organised by the Faculty of Traffic and Communications of the University in Sarajevo, and opened by Minister Forto, Amel Kosovac, Dean of the Faculty of Traffic and Communications of the University in Sarajevo, and Matej Zakošnjek, Director of the Transport Community Permanent Secretariat.
