The Agreement was previously signed in Brussels on 16 May 2024 by the EU Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, and will enter into force retroactively as of 1 January this year.
With a total budget of €7.5 billion for the period 2021-2027, the aim of the programme is to strengthen infrastructure and capacity in key areas such as supercomputing, artificial intelligence, cyber security and digital skills. The Agreement is a significant step towards improving the conditions for the work and development of small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in digitalisation and will enable legal entities and natural persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina to apply for grants from the European Union related to digitalisation under the same condition applicable when applicants from all over Europe apply.
“Today’s signing of the Agreement on the Accession to the Digital Europe Programme is an excellent opportunity for Bosnia and Herzegovina to improve its digital transformation in almost all sectors of the economy and the society, including digitalisation of public services. I am pleased that Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the future of which is in the EU, will participate in the programme that will encourage research and innovation, which is crucial for the use of highly sophisticated technologies and skills, such as artificial intelligence and high-performance computing”, said Ambassador Johann Sattler, Head of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Agreement signing ceremony was organised within the project Innovations and Digitalisation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina / EU4DigitalSME which is co-financed by the European Union (with EUR 5 mil.) and by the German Government (with EUR 1.1 mil.) implemented by GIZ.
