BiH Minister of Communications and Transport, Vojin Mitrović, held a telephone meeting last Friday with the EU Ambassador to BiH, Johann Sattler, informing him of the problems in international transport of goods through the Republic of Croatia, primarily concerning the formation of convoys and police escorts that slow done the goods flow.

Minister Mitrović informed the Ambassador that on 16 March this Ministry had sent letters to the Republic of Serbia, Republic of Croatia and Montenegro proposing to establish corridors in this pandemic situation to enable smooth flow of goods between the EU Member States and the Western Balkans countries.

Furthermore, Minister Mitrović informed Ambassador Sattler that on 26 March he held a meeting with the Croatian Ambassador to BiH, Ivana Sabolić, together with the BiH Minister of Security, Fahrudin Radončić, due to increased need to reduce congestions at BiH borders and to speed up the trucks and transport of goods.

Ambassador Sattler was also informed about the respective letters addressed to the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, indicating the aforementioned problem in the international traffic of goods, as well as the fact that, following the urgent communication of the BiH Ministry of Transport and Communication and Transport, the Republic of Serbia accepted the formation of green corridors, as recommended by the European Commission and the Transport Community, and abolished the formation of police escorts and convoys as of 2 April.

Minister Mitrović asked Ambassador Sattler, as the representative of the European Union, to assist in solving this problem with the Croatian authorities, which concerns not only BiH, but also to all other countries of the Western Balkans, including Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey.

For the same reason, Minister Mitrović held a telephone meeting with Eric Camus, Head of the Economic Section of the US Embassy to BiH, whom he asked to engage with Washington to help resolve the outstanding international goods traffic issues in transit through the Republic of Croatia.

Minister Mitrović notified Mr. Camus about the meeting with Ambassador Seattle, informing him that the Republic of Serbia had abolished forming convoys and police escorts and had designated green corridors as well as on the fact that the Ministry had so far addressed three times to the official institutions of the Republic of Croatia indicating the aforementioned problem, but no feedback was received. He also reiterated the readiness to harmonise our requests with the needs of the Republic of Croatia.

In the end, Minister Mitrović thanked Mr. Camus for the time spent and the efforts made in normalising the road transport of goods during these difficult times.
