Minister recalled that the Ministry was co-organiser of the conference on transport infrastructure in Brčko in July last year, with the emphasis on finding the possibilities for future development of the Port of Brčko.
"Today, we have an agreement signed with the Government of the Republic of Croatia on the reconstruction of the Brčko-Gunja bridge. We managed to secure 5 million KM in the BiH Budget for this purpose. The project is currently in the phase where we are in the process of selecting a contractor for the reconstruction project development in order to ensure that the reconstruction of the bridge would begin next year, enabling full operation of the border crossing again”, said Minister Forto.
He emphasised that after several years of stagnation, the project of Sava right river bank demining is finally re-activated and in the implementation phase. It is a grant from the European Commission totaling 8 million euros, implemented via the Ministry, with the support of the World Bank. The project is implemented in cooperation with BHMAC, and includes 79 locations in 9 municipalities and Brčko District of BiH.
With the aim of restoring the Tuzla – Brčko railway line, the Ministry has applied for EU funds to continue the development of project documentation.
"I pay special attention to the improvement of railway communication Doboj - Tuzla - Zvornik, including the Tuzla – Brčko railway line. These are multi-generation projects on which the future development of our country depends”, said Forto.
He took the opportunity to note on the necessity for the Brčko District Government to adopt planning documentation on which the route and activities on the construction of the Sarajevo – Belgrade highway depend.
“A modern highway that will enable fast and up-to-date road connection between Sarajevo and Belgrade, via Bijeljina, Brčko and Tuzla, is certainly the future lifeline of the entire region. The construction of the Tuzla – Brčko – Orašje road and the Banja Luka – Bijeljina road, respectively, will enable better connectivity for all those who wish to use the potentials of this region”, concluded Minister Forto.
